Poetry as Paying Attention

“The quality of life is in proportion, always, to the capacity for delight. The capacity for delight is the gift of paying attention.”

Julia Cameron, in The Artist’s Way

In honor of National Poetry Month, join Local Poet Gina R. Evers for an evening of attending to what makes a poem a poem -- demystifying the features of sound, line, and image. We will then attend to the details of our own lives and landscapes as we write them into original poems of our own. No prior experience writing poetry is necessary, and writers of all levels are welcome. Please bring a notebook and pen.

Gina R. Evers holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. Her poems have been published in PANK, About Place Journal, Quarterly West, and the Comstock review, among other journals and anthologies. Her writing has been supported by the VCFA Postgraduate Writers’ Conference, the Martha’s Vineyard Institute for Creative Writing, and the Lambda Literary Foundation. Gina is the mother of three and directs the on-campus writing center at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY.

Registration for this event has now closed.
